Customer Advice - Diesel Engines Vehicles
As part of the Diesel Fitness Test you may be asked questions about your vehicles maintenance history, for example, if fitted has the timing belt been replaced recently? Has the vehicle been regularly maintained? No fitness test will be carried out if there is an:-
- Oil leak.
- Water leak.
- Low tyre pressure.
- Muddy / dirty vehicles.
Why is this information important?
The check has been designed to make sure, as far as possible, that no damage occurs to the engine whilst undergoing a diesel emissions test.
The vehicle examiner has to satisfy him that the engine is in a fit condition to test. If the tester thinks that the emissions test may damage your vehicle, he may refuse to test it.
How is the emissions test performed?
After checking the oil temperature to ensure the engine is warm, the examiner will accelerate the engine from idle until the governor cuts in a maximum of 6 times. Your engine will not be held at full speed for any length of time.
If your engine has been properly maintained, the test should not cause any damage to your engine. Management will not be responsible of any kind of damage if the vehicle is not maintained properly.
